Colonnata loop: Marble and Lardo

From Colonnata village, troughout a mountain valley among the most exploited for marble quarrying in the history of Apuan Alps , we will walk up through chestnut woods amid the life and traditions of this valley: quarriers, shepherds, peasants and communities who have been developing an important rural culture, linked with the unique surrounding resorts. From Vergheto we'll have one of the most beautiful panoramas on the South face of Apuane range, from the ridge of Cima d'Uomo our sight will be on the history of quarring marble: from Roman times troughout the centuries We will not miss, on our way back, the opportunity to visit the traditional basement where LARDO is still produced and preserved, maturing in old marble basins,........we will eventually taste the product of this valley and its population
